Philanthropy is a central aspect of Sacramento Events’ operations. We regularly collaborate to identify causes to support and decide how we will do so. Of course, we then work together to execute our plans. The nonprofits we assist have missions that align with ours, or that resonate on a personal level with one or more of our colleagues.
Sometimes, however, we’re most inspired by people who have overcome big hardship to change the world in their own rights. For instance, Larsen Jay, the CEO of Random Acts of Flowers, is a motivational force. He nearly died in a 2007 accident and required multiple surgeries during his recovery. As he healed, he found comfort in the floral arrangement people sent him. Jay also noticed that many other patients did not receive such bouquets. His nonprofit idea to share flowers and personal kindness with others was born. Research shows that plants and flowers help reduce patient anxiety, pain, and fatigue.
Team Sacramento Events also admires Aaron Negherbon, who founded COPS Direct. Negherbon found out that budget cuts and other issues were preventing police from receiving the equipment they needed. That’s why he launched a nonprofit to provide needed items. He had previously launched a program to assist troops stationed overseas, so he knew how to make an impact. Now, he provides law enforcement with things like K9 items, medical supplies, and more. Negherbon maximizes every dollar as well. More than 90 percent of donations go directly to program fulfillment.
We applaud such charitable work. It inspires us to make similar impact in our region.
